If you are a recreational paddler who plans to spend the sunny days of the summer out on some lakes with rough water, a skirt made of nylon or lightweight water-proof breathable material will provide both splash and sun protection. Touring paddlers who plan to take longer trips on the ocean should plan on buying a more heavy-duty skirt with a neoprene deck and a waterproof/breathable tunnel for a dry, comfortable boating experience.
